IB Diploma Program

The IB Diploma Program is a two-year program beginning in the junior year. We offer three higher level (HL) courses and five standard level (SL) courses. Which classes they take depend on their strengths, interests, and on a discussion with the IB Guidance Counselor or IB Coordinator.

In addition, students are required to take Theory of Knowledge (ToK); write an independent research essay (the Extended Essay), and complete 150 hours of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) requirements.

The following classes are available:

  • DP Courses IB Biology (HL)
  • IB English Literature (HL)
  • IB History of the Americas (HL)
  • Spanish (SL)
  • Math or (SL) and one of the following
  • IB electives:
  • Chemistry (SL)
  • Social and Cultural Anthropology (SL)
  • Visual Arts (SL)

In each class, students have one or more IB required projects, essays, labs or other assignments. Criteria for these and their deadlines are determined by the IB program, so they can not be changed.

In addition, students are tested in Math (SL), Social and Cultural Anthropology (SL) and Chemistry (SL) at the end of the junior year. They are tested on their remaining subjects at the end of their senior year.

SRHS will advance the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of all its students while servicing each individual's needs within an environment that promotes success for all students. In addition, SRHS will be a school where both students and faculty come together as a community of life-long learners. Students will learn how to learn. They will leave high school with the knowledge and tools necessary to confidently meet the challenges of the 21st century.
