One of the longest standing charities in Indian River County, founded in 1953, The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is the only open admission shelter in the area and accepts all animals, including farm animals and wildlife, brought to them by the public, or under contract with Indian River Animal Control.
 

Each year the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County attends to the needs of over 7,000 animals.
 

The facility is located on a 38-acre campus in Vero Beach which includes:

  • facilities receive stray, lost and abandoned animals 24/7
     
  • a wellness clinic to provide low-cost services to areas of our community who cannot afford private veterinary services
     
  • an adoption building to match homeless animals with new families
     
  • a barn for farm animals
     
  • an outdoor pavilion for events
