The competition includes four divisions – Jr. Lifeguard (Under 16), Puddle Guard (Beginner), Rookie (Intermediate) and Senior Guard (Expert).
Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top competitors in each division and all entrants will receive a free competition T-shirt. Rider check-in begins at 8 a.m., a mandatory riders meeting is set for 8:30 a.m. and the competition will commence at 9 a.m.
All proceeds will benefit the Vero Beach Lifeguard Association’s efforts to keep beachgoers safe by acquiring more water rescue equipment.
After the contest, Shore lb. is sponsoring a free product launch party and runway show with a performance by local reggae rock band Kayavibe at 8 p.m. at Filthy’s, 1238 16th Street.

May Day, May Day, all hands on deck for the 2nd Annual “Sink Our Ship” party at the Pelican Yacht Club on Saturday, November 17th. This fundraising event benefits the Sea-Life Habitat Improvement Project (also known as SHIP). SHIP is a 501.c.3 public charity with a mission to deploy a large Navy type ship off the Treasure Coast as an artificial reef.
This party will feature guest speaker Mike Campbell, the Lee County Artificial Reef Coordinator and Executive Director of Lee Reefs, who successfully deployed the USCG Mohawk as an artificial reef this past summer off the Coast of Lee County. Guests will also enjoy an ensemble from the Ft. Pierce Jazz Society and fine dining at the lovely Pelican Yacht Club. There will also be many silent auction & raffle items. The party begins at 6pm. 5th Annual Turkey Trot Against Hunger

Nearly 1000 participants made the Turkey Trot Against Hunger part of their Thanksgiving Day tradition in 2011, and the 2012 event promises to be as strong. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for Harvest Food's emergency hunger relief program. The run will be followed by a complimentary sweet potato pancake breakfast provided by Marsh Landing Restaurant for race participants.
A free one-mile fun run is offered for kids ages six to 10 at 7:15 a.m. Online registration is encouraged and available at http://www.trotagainsthunger.org/.

The Rotary Club of Vero Beach Oceanside is hosting a Charity Poker Paddle and Youth Guidance is one of six beneficiaries. The fundraising event will be held beside the boat launch at McWilliams Park in Vero Beach. HOW THE POKER PADDLE WORKSThe idea is to gather 5 playing cards, 1 at each checkpoint with the option of purchasing an additional bonus card for $10 at a sixth checkpoint. The playing cards will be in a sealed envelope and must stay that way until the end! Upon return to the final check-in/launch point, each poker players envelopes will be collected and later opened by a judge and the top three 5-card stud poker hands will be awarded prizes. For those choosing to not participate in the poker portion participants may opt for a guided nature tour instead. CHECK-IN will begin at 9:00am at McWilliams Park near the dog park on Acacia Road and LAUNCH is at 10:00am at the basin directly across from the City of Vero Beach Riverhouse. Upon check-in and tallying of all poker participants, winners will be announced and AWARDS distributed as follows: BEST POKER HAND = $150, SECOND BEST POKER HAND = $100, and THIRD BEST POKER HAND = $50. Pre-register by Monday, November 19th and you will receive a coupon from Marks at the Pointe Salon & Boutique on Royal Palm Pointe in Vero Beach for your choice of one FREE waterfront manicure, a 30-minute massage, a 30-minute facial or $30 towards any other service offered at Marks. Registration is $20.00/person (with or without your own kayak, canoe or paddle board) and $30.00/Poker Hand. LIMITED spaces are available in the ten person Giant Cano e at $20.00/person which will also participate in the poker paddle and provide a guided tour. Maps of the participating businesses will be published in the Press Journal on the morning of the event and will also be available at the Chamber Office located at 700 Main Street.
